25 Things to remember

1. It hurts to love someone and not be loved in return, but what is more painful is to love someone and never find the courage to let that person know how you feel.

2. We need to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift.

3. Love is when you take away the feeling, the passion, and the romance in a relationship-and find out you still care for that person.

4. A sad thing in life is when you meet someone who means a lot to you, only to find out in the end that it was never meant to be and you just have to let go.

5. When the door of happiness closes, another opens but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one that has been opened for us.

6. The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on the porch with, never say a word to each other, and walk away feeling like it was the best conversation of your life.

7. It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

8. Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back! Don't expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart but if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours.

9. There are things you'd love to hear that you would never hear from the person whom you would like to hear them from, but don't be so deaf as not to hear it from the one who says it from his heart.

10.Never say goodbye if you still want to try-never give up if you still feel you can go on-never say you don't love a person anymore if you can't let go.

11. Love comes to those who still hope although they've been disappointed-to those who still believe although they've been betrayed, need to love those who still love although they've been hurt before.

12. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour to like someone and a day to love someone - but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

13. Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth, even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Hope you find the one that makes you smile.

14. There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real! Hope you dream of that special someone.

15. Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.

16. May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy and enough money to buy me gifts.

17. Always put yourself in others' shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the person, too.

18. A careless word may kindle strife; a cruel word may wreck a life; a timely word may level stress; a loving word may heal and bless.

19. The beginning of love is to let those we love be just themselves and not twist them with our own image -otherwise, we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them.

20. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

21. Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives.

22. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear.

23. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

24. You know it's love when all you want is for that person to be happy, even if you're not a part of their happiness.

25. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

The Most Beautiful Heart

One day, a young woman was standing in the middle of the town, proclaiming that she had the most beautiful heart in all the valley. A large crowd gathered and they all admired the heart for it was perfect. There was not a mark or a flaw in it. Yes, they all agreed. It was the most beautiful heart they had ever seen.

The young woman was very proud and boasted even more loudly about her beautiful heart. Suddenly, an old woman appeared at the front of the crown and said "Why your heart is not nearly as beautiful as mine."

The young woman and the crowd looked at the older woman's heart. It was beating strongly, but it was full of scars, it had places where pieces had been removed and other pieces put in, but they didn't quite fit right and there were several jagged edges. In fact, in some places there were deep gouges where whole pieces were missing. The people stared-how can she say her heart is more beautiful, they thought?

The young woman looked at the old woman's heart and saw its condition and laughed. "You must be joking," she said. "Compare your heart with mine. Mine is quite perfect and yours is a mess of scars and tears." "Yes," said the old woman. "Yours is perfect looking, but I would never trade with you. You see, every scar represents a person to whom I have given my love. I tear out a piece of my heart and give it to them. Often, they give me a piece of their heart which fits into the empty place in my heart, power, but sometimes the pieces aren't exact and I have some rough edges, which I cherish, because they remind me of the love we shared. Sometimes, I have given pieces of my heart away and the other person hasn't returned a piece of theirs and these are the deep gouges----giving love is taking a chance. Although, these gouges are painful, they stay open to remind me of the love I have for these people too and I hope someday they may return and fill the space I have waiting. So now do you see what true beauty is?"

The young woman stood silently with tears running down her cheeks. She walked up to the old woman, reached into her perfect young and beautiful heart and ripped a piece out. She offered it to the old woman with trembling hands. The old woman took the offering and placed it in her heart and then took a piece from her own old scarred heart and placed it in the wound of the young woman's heart. It fit, but not perfectly, as there were some jagged edges. The young woman looked at her heart, power, not perfect anymore but more beautiful than ever, since love from the old woman's heart flowed into her. They embraced and walked away, side by side.

The Paradox of Our Time

The following was written by a student at Columbine High School upon the school reopening.

It has traveled across e-mail and into the hearts of those who take the time to read it and reflect on its message.

The paradox of our time in history is that we have Taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, But narrower viewpoints. We have bigger houses and smaller families. More conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees, but less sense. More knowledge, but less judgement. More experts, but more problems. More medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly. Laugh too little, drive too fast, get too Angry too quickly. Stay up too late, get up tired, read too seldom, watch TV too much. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk to much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We have learned how to make a living, but not a life; we've added years to life, not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor. We've conquered outer space, but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've split the atom, but not our prejudice. We plan more but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever, but have less communication. These are the times of fast food and slow digestion; tall men and short character; steep profits and shallow relationships.

These are the times of world peace but domestic warfare; more leisure but less fun; more kinds of food but less nutrution. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce; of fancier houses but broken homes; disposable diapers and throw-away morality; one night stands; overweight bodies; and pills that do everything from cheer to quiet, to kill.

It is a time when there is much in the show window and nothing in the stockroom.

Time

Imagine there is a bank that credits your account each morning with $86,400.

It carries over no balance from day to day, every evening it deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day. What would you do?

Draw out every cent, of course!!! Each of us has such a bank. Its name is TIME. Every morning it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever you have failed to invest.

It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day. If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against "tomorrow". You must live in the present on today's deposits.

Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness, pleasure, and success! The clock is running. Make the most of today.
